Multi Factor Authentication (DUO)

What is multi factor authentication?

MFA stands for Multi-Factor Authentication. It's a security measure used to ensure that individuals trying to gain access to an online account or system are who they say they are. MFA requires users to provide two or more different types of verification before they can access their account.

These factors typically fall into (3) categories:

  • Something you know: This could be a password, a PIN, or answers to security questions.
  • Something you have: This is usually a physical device, such as a smartphone or a hardware token, that generates a one-time code.
  • Something you are: This refers to biometric data, such as fingerprints or facial recognition.
